This is not the only game of its kind for the Xbox 360, as there have been several entries in the series. The players assume the role of both sides during this event and must help the two sides battle it out for survival. However, after being trapped inside the fortress for six years without anything to do, the humans were suddenly ambushed by the mercenary organization and taken hostage. This new group of Mercs were initially stationed at a fortress called the Cave of Wonders, protected by a massive amount of underground water. This time around though, the humans are not alone in their fight against evil instead, they have hired the aid of a group of special forces called the "Mavericks" to assist them in their battle against Weapon X. You play the part of one of many newly inducted rookies in the force, who is tasked to protect the humans of Earth from an impending attack on their homestead by an organization called Weapon X. The story is set in twenty-five years after the events of the first game, and the conflict between the good guy and the evil organization known as Weapon X has erupted into a worldwide war.
